Formerly known as the pearl of the Mediteranean Dubrovnik suffered during the Yugoslav war of 1991-5 and although largely healed the scars are still evident .
Challenge 1 was getting into the historic old town from the port with single lane roads completely tied up with traffic and road works !
Finally arrived we took the nearby cable car up Dubrovnik`s Mt Pryd for a great view of the town, the coastline and the positions occupied by the towns defenders during the so called Homeland war (the trench lines are in fact still evident)
Returning to the old town we tackled the city walls pathway a magnificent 2-3 km walk that provided tremendous views of the town`s buildings and rocky coastline.
The old town itself despite having a few thousand cruisers was a delight as narrow laneways lead to secluded eateries and shops making meandering uncrowded and rewarding.
Tegan took full advantage of the food dept with a local pizza and great tasting ice cream
Our journey back to the ship was painfully slow at one stage covering 200 metres in 20 minutes
We made it back on time room in a Frank Sinatra tribute had a 7 course dinner meal and bid fond farewell to our friendly Balinese waiters who were often getting into trouble with their overly strict Italian head staff
A lovely cruise and a great way to spend a week or two on holiday !
