On on arctic like day with fierce wind chill sightseeing was initially limited to photos from the car and on the run as we crossed the narrow lanes of Dartmoor with its prominent rock outcrops taking on an almost spectral appearance in the bleak landscape on this equally bleak day.
We finally arrived at Lynton a normally picturesque village connected by an 1880 funicular to its sister town of Lynmouth scene of devestating floods in 1952 that claimed some 30 + lives including 2 woman travelers from Melbourne who'd only arrived in town the night before !
Conditions on the coast were so frigid (this is Spring !) that after only 50 minutes we decided to return home this time via Exmoor. The nature of the weather was readily evident with signs of snow across the moor and even iced foliage like waterfalls alongside the road which the girls braved the elements to photograph running back to the car like Olympic athletes.
Finally we arrived back in Honiton knowing that we are only 3 days away from the relative warmth of Italy !
