Venice day 14 - On the high sea !

Awoke to a sunny day at last and having packed it was off to the Venice docks to greet our cruise ship the MSC Divina (Italian) launched less than two years ago by the ageless Sophia Loren !

What an amazing first sight it was with the Divina some 16 floors high, a veritable floating skyscraper, dwarfing the nearby Oriana a cruise ship of the past

With embarkation procedures out of the way we boarded our luxurious ship and headed straight for the lunch buffet with of course obligatory cocktails & beers.

Checking into our rooms we were surprised at how roomy they were although upon thinking the last time i cruised they were still using hammocks.

Kylee and Tegan were rapt that they'd been upgraded to a balcony which they soon put to good use by hanging their washed undies from the deck rail in true Italian style !

Our exit from Venice was stunning, one of those never to be forgotten life moments cruising past St Marks square and the grand canal centre of attention to thousands of envious Venezian tourists

With time to explore the many levels there are way too many bars to count, numerous pools and spas, a water slide, a bowling alley, a squash court, a 1,000 seat theater, many shops ..... the list just goes on and on.

The 2 level central foyer has to be seen to be believed, sparkling staircase, glass elevators and a huge chandelier - stuff of dreams.

We settled into our balcony cabins before taking in the nights entertainment of acrobats and singers followed by our late dinner sitting at 9.00p,m - more beer and cocktails as well as a bottle of red when all I asked for was a glass !

The only downsides to report to date are the many people on board, the at times less than enthusiastic service and the strong likelihood of developing liver problems with the all inclusive drinks package we have !

Time to live like kings ..... well at least for a week !

PS just experienced breakfast in dock at Bari - imagine trying to eat in the middle of Myers during its Xmas sales opening and you'll have a fairly accurate picture of meal time on a big cruise ship !
